Comparison between Orange, Zain and Umniah loyalty programs

By  Hana Ihjoul , Digital Marketing.

There are only three telecommunications companies in Jordan, making competition among them strong with each company aspiring to provide more value to its members in an attempt to maintain and grow their customer base. Having a rewards program is one way the three companies have tried to diversify, we evaluate the features of shortcoming of each telco reward program in Jordan here.

Zain Telecom Rewards Program

Ease of joining: ★☆☆☆☆

Joining the Zain Rewards Program is exclusive to the Sheleh line holders, which is offered to youth customers aged between 18 and 29 years old. Although being enrolled in the program is by default once members sign up to Sheleh Line, this excludes a large segment of the Zain customers.

Earning points: ★★☆☆☆

Earning points in the Sheleh line program is easy and can be done in two ways:

  • 10 points for every line recharge or subscription renewal

  • 10 points for each time a member of the ‘Sheleh’ renews the subscription

See all Zain Rewards program details here

Redeeming points: ★★☆☆☆

Points can be redeemed for a relevant variety of services including any of the following three services:

· Monthly subscription renewal

· Free minutes on other carriers

· Purchase of mobile internet bundles

Sheleh Line points can also be redeemed for discounts from a range of cafés and restaurants, albeit very limited. To find out the partners with discounts, visit the offers page, check the Zain app or contact Zain customer service.

umnicoin program from Umniah Telecom

Ease of joining: ★★★★★

Umniah customers are automatically enrolled in the umnicoin program across all the services of Umniah, be it a mobile phone package or a home subscription. All users need to do is download the app. This gets the full marks.

Earning points: ★★★★☆

The telco is generous in the many ways to earn umnicoin namely:

  • 500 welcome points for just signing up to an Umniah package

  • Earning on each payment towards the monthly subscription

  • Participating in the weekly quiz app Uquiz, earning 5 umnicoin for each correct answer

  • Engagement through facebook earns 10 umnicoin for a like and 50 for a share

  • Just walking earns umnicoin, with 50 awarded per day for completing over 10,000 steps

Only adding external earning options to the umnicoin program is missing to achieve full marks in this category.

Read here more details about how to the umnicoin program

Redeeming points: ★★★★★

umnicoin can be redeemed for a very wide variety of Umniah services in addition to many other options earning them full points in this review. Using umnicoin to buy Umniah services is common such as call credit, internet bundles and others. Umnicoin can also be redeemed directly for gift vouchers and discounts through Umniah phone app. However two impressive additions are the ability to directly pay with umnicoin at point of sale in many stores across Jordan, and also online through PointCheckout online payment gateway, which together provides ultimate flexibility for redemption. Finally, you can donate umnicoin to a number of charities in Jordan such as Tkiyet Um Ali and the King Hussein Cancer Foundation

One recommendation in this review is for Umniah to make the information more easily accessible and better promoted in order for a member to benefit from the top-rated program.

Tikram Rewards Program from Orange Telecom

Ease of joining: ★★☆☆☆

Members must register for the Tikram program through the company website and then you have to reach a minimum of 200 points before activating their account, which is done by contacting the Orange customer service. Tedious process although available to all members.

Earning points: ★★★★☆

Tikram points can be earned through paying bills or charging prepaid lines in addition to the points earned on the use of partner services such as Anghami, Secure Internet, and other services. This is flexible enough for the average users, however not yet a full lifestyle program.

Redeeming points: ★★★★☆

Tikram points can be redeemed in one of two ways:

  • Shopping from the Tikram store which includes gadgets, electronics, vouchers, etc.

  • Redeem points for discounts from a range of shops, cafes and restaurants in Jordan by paying at the point of sale. The full list of merchants can be found here.

Although the options are many in the store, and offline at stores, online redemptions remains based on vouchers which is a limitation still, and keeps the Tikra program short of a 5 star rating.

All three reward programs have been slowly making their reward programs more visible and with more options for earning and redemption. The more the competition heats up, the better it will become for consumers as more options and better deals are expected to be rolled out in the market. This article will be updated regularly as programs update their options and terms.
